Last year was the most fun to plan, the most fun to put together, and the most visually beautiful 'do we've had in Sammi's 5 years of parties. The theme was Olivia, and you may remember these two posts:
Chasing the Crafty DIY Birthday Party and Sammi's Olivia Party Picture Overload.
Samantha doesn't have any strong frontrunners in the favorite character department this year, other than the perennial favorite highlighted already last year, and she doesn't have any major favorite activities (unless you want to count school, reading or watching television, none of which make for a particularly interesting or catchy theme), so I'm trying to think generic. Like maybe a color theme.
Like maybe pink & orange, or turquoise & orange, or turquoise & pink, or, heck, turquoise & anything! I have two boards on Pinterest dedicated to some of these color combinations: Blue & Orange and Pink & Orange, and then there's the ever-mind-shattering inspiration of Oilily. (So now you've seen 3 of my 5 Pinterest boards, all needing a lot of attention...) My mom has suggested a field of flowers theme, or butterflies, both of which would be excellent. I'm thinking maybe flowers and stripes in turquoise & orange (I just love pattern-mixing, thanks to my Oilily past...). We'll do the party at the local playground again - a definite benefit of having a late spring/summer birthday!
Grabbed this image off the web because it makes me drool...

I think a field of flowers would be really fun and pretty easy/cheap too. Unrelated - a friend of mine just did a golf party and made the cutest little putting greens SUPER cheap from buying a little turf at home depot...maybe a great outdoors theme?

ha! I have a pinterest board devoted to red and turquoise. I love those bold combos.
Beautiful Olivia party! And I love the turquoise and orange. My good friend had her beach wedding in those colors this summer and it was beautiful.
You know I'm the most un-creative person around! But if you've heard of haloheaven.com, they have super cheap, super cute stuff for girl birthday parties. From princess's to tea parties!
Cate's tea party birthday was so much fun & cheap. I just got straw hats from Oriental Trading Co & the girls decorated them with silk flowers my mom & found in the basement. You could modify that to be a picnic party and do red & white checked as your colors.
Isn't pinterest awesome?! Love it. And I love a good girly party. I second the haloheaven.com idea. We did a fairy theme with halos and wands and wings from them. It was perfect. I am pondering the ideas of an art party or a rainbow party for my daughter in June. :)
I posted on my pinterest about a Ballet birthday party- I might ask to rent the studio for the afternoon this year since lil Gs BD is in Nov and the weather is so iffy here then.( I know that idea wont work for Sammi since she hasnt gotten into ballet. YET!) Ive been pinning for my sons wedding and found lots of summery ideas- drinking out of mason jars with bright colored paper straws,Making pinwheels, bought fans for $1 and we are making lots of paper flowers and pompoms with streamers, hoping to get discount paper doilies after valentines day- pink odds n ends for the bridal shower. Its good you are coming up with a theme now instead of waiting till the last min like I do!I know you will do a great job!
so I declare my love for pinterest and I have been following a person that is doing a candy land theme birthday party! just saying that is CUTE! I guess Olivia is out! smiles
Ellie's party was ALMOST red and turquoise and a little yellow (circus). And then my husband of all people said that it wasn't girly enough. So now it's pink, turquoise, and yellow. Expect lots of pins soon.
Ohhh..the orange and blues are so beautiful! I wish I was crafty and could give you some fabulous ideas! I'm scrambling for Hailey's birthday and the party is 32 days away :-) We are doing pink and green.
I've been sucking with the comments, mostly because I read you via email now and it's SUCH A PAIN to get on to comment.
But.
I had to respond - I like the idea of a butterfly theme; soooooo fun.
