At 40-something, I have the skin of a teenager. Like, really. And not the soft, dewey, rosy-cheeked kind that looks beautifully sun-kissed even in winter, but the oily, combination kind that you can probably play connect-the-dots with. Actually, I misrepresent a bit. While "the skin of a teenager" means that wrinkles are scarce, my skin has gotten a bit more "normal" over the last year or so, with breakouts also becoming scarce, and the return of some evenness of tone. I can finally feel a bit more like an adult and have a few more options available to me in skin-care products and make-ups.
TMI, really.
But, it's relevant. I'm not being paid for this post, but Olay recently gave me a sample of Olay Total Effects tinted moisturizer with sunscreen to try out and review, along with the product information. My whole life I wished to be able to just throw on some tinted moisturizer and run (okay, not my whole life, but certainly since I was about 12), able to wear something sheer and non-cloying. And this stuff, I must say, is pretty great. I tried it over a couple of weekends. It went on smooth, had just enough coverage to add some color and a bit of healthy glow to my deathly pallor, and evened out my skin tone. And it felt good on my skin all day, never dry or oily.
By the way, the bottle was very, very cool! Not sure how it works, but I like the swirls...
Olay states that Total Effects fights the 7 signs of aging:
- Fine lines and wrinkles: reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven Tone: balances and helps even out tone
- Age Spots: reduces appearance of discoloration
- Gentle Exfoliation: Improves surface cell turnover
- Dryness: provides nourishing moisturization
- Moisture Barrier: strengthens skin’s natural defense against moisture loss
- Luminosity: recaptures youthful luminosity
I am really looking forward to using this product in the summer, when a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen becomes even more necessary. While I love the product, I'd say the only drawback, which I hope Olay can correct, is the smell. I know "smell" is a harsh word, but I don't know how else to describe it. It just didn't sit all that well with me. It wasn't scented - it was just the odor of the base products. But it won't stop me from using it. :-)

Now, the extra-fun part! Olay has given me a $25.00 Walmart gift card to give to one of my lucky readers! I have a few requirements here for extra entries for this drawing...
You'll get one entry for each of these items (you can bundle them all into one comment, though - just make sure you include your e-mail address!):
1) Tell me how *you* fight the aging of your skin (and don't give me the "I'm only 20-something" line - I'll just get jealous...)
2) "Like" my Fashion and Frugality (for Kids) Facebook page
3) "Follow" me my Fashion and Frugality (for Kids) blog!
I'll take entries through this Friday night (3/8). :-)

I use sunscreen and moisturize. I should be doing more, though. My mother always had a very involved skin care routine and her skin always looked great.

Liked you facebook page - can't believe I hadn't already done that. I used a tinted moisturizer and sunscreen to try to fight aging but I'm losing the battle!
In all honesty, I'm not doing enough to fight the signs of aging. I'll be 30 in April, so it's time to get serious about it. Right now I use an exfoliator every other day and a combination of Aveeno tinted moisturizer and neutrogena anti wrinkle anti blemish cream. Sigh.
Hey Becca
Have you heard of the Facebook game of 20 questions? Well, some one made a Blog-game called Tagged. And since it is now my turn to tag someone I chose you :)

Hope you have time to play!
I wear an SPF lotion. I was always a big fan of Olay, or Aveeno. I also wear a wide brimmed hat if I am spending a lot of time in the sun, and I try to find shade as much as possible. I have learned the hard way that I do not tan.

I would love to try this product!. I appreciate you reviewing it. I am definitely losing my "glow" as I slide closer to 40. I use Olay lotion daily, but it's not enough. I need something specifically for my face! Help!
I always wear 30+ sunscreen on my face--I like Neutrogena and Eucerin moisturizers for that. I have extremely sensitive skin with frequent red patches. I always wear hats too in the summer--REI is my favorite place for finding neat ones! I used to use Oil of Olay when I was younger, but the "good stuff" is pretty pricey.
I am following your fashion blog and I liked it on FB!

Fight aging of my skin? I havent found what will get rid of the wrinkle between my eyes but surely need to and I mean fast. I call that the "kindergarten wrinkle", I know cute huh? Too bad the wrinkle isnt as cute! My hubby doesnt understand why I cant grow old gracefully HAHA Im going down kickin' and screamin'
as far as liking and following well, I already do b/c I love that samantha!
I too have that teenage like skin. And I'm looking for a tinted moisturizer to use to even and give just a little color. I'll be looking at the Olay next time I make it to the store.
For my skin, I moisturize differently depending on the time of the year. In winter I can use a regular one formulated for combo skin but in summer I have to pull out the more expensive mattifying stuff from Mark (Avon). I've tried others but that's the only one that works so what makeup I do put on doesn't slide right off when I walk out the door.
And I liked and follow already. :)
I use Mary Kay time wise moisturizer, mask and Sun things. though I would love to try something new
I already follow your fashion blog

I use a lot of sunscreen when I am out in the sun...here in Florida you can't be too careful. I should do more for my skin though since I am now 31:(
Tell me how *you* fight the aging of your skin (and don't give me the "I'm only 20-something" line - I'll just get jealous...)- well i wash at least twice a day and use moisturizer

I use sunscreen and moisturize.
I liked you on Facebook.
I use foundation with an SPF 15 minimum, and I always wear hats in the sun. Protects your skin, and you don't have to worry about what your hair looks like :)
My SIL who lives in Paris got me addicted to Clarins...which I can't really afford. I subside on the samples and gifts she brings me:P I'd love a cheaper option though. And I also stay out of the sun and use facial sunscreen.
I too have the skin like a teenager by the way:/
