Day 1: A Little Added Awareness Never Hurt

The start of October marks the start of an important month for the Down syndrome community, Down Syndrome Awareness Month.  Right in the midst of Buddy Walk season (on the 20th).  Right at the time that our Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia calendar becomes ready for purchase, too (also set to coincide with the Buddy Walk on the 20th).

And, to commemorate and raise the afformentioned awareness, to teach the uninitiated and to celebrate the beautiful people with an extra 21st chromosome, many bloggers have elected to blog for all 31 days of the month.  The event is called 31 for 21, traditionally hosted by Tricia at Unringing the Bell, but this year being hosted by Michelle at Big Blueberry Eyes.  Initially, I balked, thinking there was no way, no how I'd be able to do this.  Sometimes I think the sparkling font of blog post ideas has dried up, and the number of hours in the day have been stealthily, steadily decreasing (it's a conspiracy, I tell you!!).  But over the last week (have you noticed my absence?), I've been brainstorming, making sure to note every idea that popped into my head, preparing to flesh out a multitude of posts ready to publish over the 31 days of October.  I'm not promising I'll manage all 31, but I'm sure game to give it a try!  Not all of the posts have anything to do with Down syndrome, some may just be a photo or two to show you how ordinary Down syndrome is in our lives, but the majority of posts probably will in some way or another.  By the way, if any of you are interested in guest posting, please let me know in the comments and leave your e-mail address!

Please click on the badge in my sidebar to view the list of participants in this 31 for 21 Blog Hop (or to join yourself!), and stop by some of those other blogs to leave a comment and say "hi!"

Enjoy the ride, share the love, and help spread Down syndrome awareness in your community!

Way to go! I wish I could but, alas, I know I can not. I will cheer you all on anyway!
