The Domestic Diva, Valentine Edition

Couldn't really include this in yesterday's post because Sammi's teachers read my blog.  And these cookies are for them.

So, continuing with Saturday's productive activities, Sunday also proved to be fairly productive, even if it involved staying in jammies.  While the cookies were (just skip the next part of this sentence, teachers!!) not totally made from scratch, I did add some ingredients, add food coloring, roll the dough, cut the shapes by hand with a knife, and attempt to decorate them.  Okay, so they're sort of from scratch, right?  Sammi helped a little bit, but being a control freak, I couldn't let her do much more than sprinkle the red stuff on.  She was more interested in scamming ways to eat the raw dough.

And scamming ways to eat the finished product, of course.  "Mommy, I need another cookie!  Please?  Please, Mommy?  I need it!  Pleeeeeeeease?

May I just say that there are a freaking gazillion kids in Sammi's class?  20-something.  Way more cards to address than a child with a short attention span can hope to knock out in a week.  We did Hello Kitty for the girls, and Star Wars for the boys.  Would have done them all the same, but the cards came with magnets.  I don't really think the boys would really appreciate the Hello Kitty magnet.  Besides, (and I'm gonna make my geek-girl confession, here...) I wanted a Star Wars magnet (or 8) for myself...

The Valentine's Day Princess, getting ready for school.  Thank you to Steve's friend, who made this adorable dress for her!

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Such cute cookies! We didn't to anything for our daycare folks, but that was their explicit request. The children made cards for each other there, too, so we got off easy one last time. Next year I expect to be buying the princess (and Star Wars!) cards, too!

Happy Valentines day to your family from ours. THanks for the idea for cutting the cookies with a knife. I mustve loaned my heart shaped cookie cutters to one of my adult children, my whole collections is gone. Was down sick yesterday so we are up Valentines morning baking before Lil Gs Dr appt. and ballet. The dress is awesome and your cookies look Yum-o.

In case anyone's interested in the dress...the woman who made it doesn't have an Etsy shop yet, but I'm pretty sure she'd make them to order! It's the pillowcase-style dress you see for toddlers, but it's made from a pattern so it can be done with any fabric, any size. The one Samantha is wearing is a 6. It'll be perfect with bike shorts this summer! I put a pink & white cardigan over it on Valentine's Day, though. Sooooo, if you're interested, let me know and I'll put you in contact with the person that made it!

Beca, Thanks for the comment on my cookies, I found a cookie cutter in with the playdough tools and misc my sister gave me when they moved this summer. (I washed it but the playdough is non toxic anyhoo.) I realized its awfully handy to have all the cookies in the same exact shape so they all cook evenly. I typically cook lots of shapes and sizes and have different doneness. If you like the icing job try using a meringue frosting also called royal icing. Use the meringue powder with the cake decorating supplies. Its great because it dries flat and shiny and isnt overly sweet like icing. ;)
