A Little Bit of Randomness

Just some random stuff this morning.

First of all, please don't forget to read and leave a comment on my Healthy Breakfast post for a chance to win a cereal and milk jug giveaway from General Mills!  Today's the last day for it.

I'm completely cracking up at the number of responses I got to my blog post about Dominance on Saturday.  Wow, I think I hit on a pretty touchy subject in most households, and have suggested to Steve that he read it, as I have gotten loads of ammo backing my point of view on it.  Because that's how I roll.

Had another less than satisfactory birthday party experience with Samantha this weekend.  I was particularly bummed because the party was for the little girl that Samantha is closest to at her "typical" preschool.  I think most of the issue came from the fact that Sammi was completely exhausted and a bit over-stimulated.  The party was at 1:00, and we'd had a pretty lazy morning.  I think it may have been a bit too much for her, and since it was at someone's house she was familiar with, all she wanted to do was sit in her friend's bedroom and read books.  Which I did not allow her to do when the party was taking place outside.  Which did not go over particularly well with her.  I won't talk about the developmental gap you could apparently fly a 747 through between her and her typical peers at the party, because that wouldn't be fair to either Samantha or her very sweet friends, and because I have bored people enough with that stuff.  So I'll keep it simple - note to self for next timemake sure Samantha has a nap before any afternoon weekend events...  Incidentally, she slept for an hour and a half from the moment we walked back into our house after the party.

We've got another party for another classmate next weekend, but it starts at 11, so...no nap.  And it's at a park that presumably has a playground, so that should work pretty well.  Have playground, will travel, right?

Sammi's adorable new bike?  Let's just say that it's going to take some patience on our part and on Samantha's as well to get her up and running (riding) with it.  She wants to ride it, but has discovered that when you back pedal, everything stops.  Uh huh.  Those are breaks, sweetie (oh, btw, I heard her talking to one of her rubber ducks in the bath lastnight, having a very detailed conversation between Mommy Duck and Baby Duck, where Mommy Duck called the baby "Sweetie."  Think she hears it much?).  I felt so bad yesterday at how frustrated she was getting.  The attempt lasted all of about 3 minutes before she called it quits.  We've got to remember to be persistent and stick with it.  I know she'll get it eventually.

I went to the gym this morning for the first time in about 8 months.  I'm a bit ashamed of that.  And I've put on a lot of weight since then, too.  I knew I had to get the ball rolling again, so at 4:45 I was up and dressed and at the gym by 4:55 (it opens at 5).  Hopped up on the treadmill and feel soooooooo good for having done it!  I'm looking forward to Wednesday morning already.  So how many 30-minute visits to the treadmill does it take to lose 20 lbs?  Anyone?

And now for what I think may be the most random thing...I was thinking this morning about how much I absolutely love having a pair of pink Barbie doll shoes on my bathroom sink.  Completely random, but so indicative of the sweet little girl I share the room with, of how far she has come from the days of babyhood, of the big girl she has become.  Barbie shoes...who'd have thought?

I'll take your 20 pounds on the treadmill and raise you another 20 on my neighborhood walking path and we'll see how long it takes me.

Yes, the bike takes time. It takes all kids a little while to get it. Are you still doing PT? If so, you might want to ask if you can bring the bike.

I just finished big running thing and actually gained weight because I was constantly ravenously hungry. Clothes still all fit so in THEORY it could be muscle vs fat, but... NO. Darn it. Sorry, don't mean to be discouraging.

4:45 is early! I've always wanted to be motivated to exercise in the morning, but it's just NEVER going to happen....no matter how much I need it too. I am terribly out of shape these days too, and have started adding extra laps around the park when we walk over to swing. Every little bit helps I guess.
